Psilocybin tolerance calculator

An approximate estimate of remaining tolerance from days since your last dose, with the research on how fast tolerance builds and fades.

An approximation, labelled as one

Research establishes that tolerance to psilocybin is strong and that it crosses over to LSD. It does not give a day-by-day recovery curve. The curve below is our illustration, set so that it never suggests less than two weeks for a full reset. An illustrative curve, not a measurement. We found no study that measured how fast tolerance fades after a single dose.

Estimate, not a measurement

Partial tolerance likely

About 27% on the illustrative curve, where 100 is the peak after a high dose.

Suggested wait: about 9 more days. We use two weeks after the last dose as a deliberately conservative default, not a measured figure; the illustrative curve for a moderate dose drops below the line at about day 13.

Effects may still be noticeably blunted. Waiting is the only reliable way to reset; a bigger dose is not.

Tolerance crosses over: a recent dose of LSD or another classic psychedelic counts as well.

The same estimate for every dose size and day, so the page works without JavaScript. Percentages are positions on our illustrative curve, not measurements.

What the research does say

What it does not say

We found no study that measured how many days tolerance takes to fade after a single dose of psilocybin, at any dose. Figures of a few days, one week or two weeks circulate widely without a measured source. We chose two weeks because waiting longer has no safety cost, and because it leaves time to integrate one experience before the next.

Why not take more?

Partial tolerance fades unevenly, and potency differs between batches. [The abuse potential of medical psilocybin according to the 8 factors of the Controlled Substances Act, Neuropharmacology, 2018, read 28 October 2026] Adding grams to beat tolerance stacks two unknowns. Use the dose calculator's cautious figure, and wait.

Questions

How long does psilocybin tolerance last?

Nobody has measured it precisely for single doses. Research shows tolerance to psilocybin is strong and develops with repeated doses, but we found no study that measured how many days it takes to fade. This calculator uses two weeks as a deliberately conservative default. [The abuse potential of medical psilocybin according to the 8 factors of the Controlled Substances Act, Neuropharmacology, 2018, read 28 October 2026]

Does LSD tolerance carry over to mushrooms?

Yes. A 1961 study found people tolerant to LSD were largely cross-tolerant to psilocybin, and the reverse, and later reviews confirm the cross-tolerance. [The abuse potential of medical psilocybin according to the 8 factors of the Controlled Substances Act, Neuropharmacology, 2018, read 28 October 2026]

Can I take more mushrooms to get past tolerance?

Do not. Tolerance is unpredictable as it fades, and a larger dose taken against partial tolerance can land far harder than expected. Waiting is the only reliable reset.

Does microdosing build tolerance?

Possibly. Microdosing schedules build in days off for this reason. The Fadiman protocol takes a microdose every third day. [Might microdosing psychedelics be safe and beneficial? An initial exploration, Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, 2019, read 28 October 2026]

When a retreat or licensed centre is the better choice

If you take any medication on the interaction checker, have a personal or family history of psychosis or bipolar disorder, have a heart condition, or have nobody sober and steady to sit with you, a setting with screening and trained staff is the safer choice. In trials, participants were screened first and supported by trained monitors throughout.
