Not medical advice
Nothing on this site is medical or psychological advice, a diagnosis or a treatment. We make no claim that psilocybin cures or treats anything. Talk to a doctor before you take it.
The risks are real
- An analysis of online reports found that 47% of 62 reports of lithium taken with a classic psychedelic (such as psilocybin or LSD) involved seizures and 39% involved medical attention. Oregon's licensed programme bars anyone who has taken lithium in the last 30 days from an administration session. [Classic Psychedelic Coadministration with Lithium, but Not Lamotrigine, is Associated with Seizures: An Analysis of Online Psychedelic Experience Reports, Pharmacopsychiatry, 2021] [Client Information Form (Oregon Psilocybin Services, updated 1.1.26), Oregon Health Authority, Public Health Division, 2026]
- Antidepressants can blunt the effects, and stopping one suddenly carries its own risks. Never stop a prescribed medicine without your prescriber.
- A personal or family history of psychosis or bipolar disorder, and some heart conditions, are reasons centres turn people away.

Not legal advice
Psilocybin is illegal in most of the world, and a Schedule I substance under US federal law. We list centres only in seven places and state the legal position in each: state licensed in Oregon and Colorado, unscheduled in Jamaica, legal as fresh truffles in the Netherlands, and illegal but tolerated in practice in Costa Rica, Mexico and Portugal.
Illegal but tolerated in practice: Prohibited under national law. Retreats operate openly and we found no reported prosecution of a retreat. That can change without notice, and participants and operators carry real legal risk. The absence of reported cases is not proof that none exist, and tolerance is a description of what has happened, not a permission. A place moves out of this tier as soon as we find a prosecution.
Laws change. Check the law where you will be, and the law where you live, before you travel. Bringing psilocybin home can be a serious crime.
In a crisis
In the US, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Elsewhere, call your local emergency number.
